Tom was born Oct. 12, 1951, in Moline, Illinois, to Merrill and Betty Liedtke Norburg. He graduated from AlWood High School in 1969 and completed several years of post-secondary education. He served in the U.S. Air Force from July 1970 until November 1971, when he was honorably discharged. He was a skilled machine laborer at John Deere and was most recently employed at the Carroll Times Herald for 10 years. Tom was a devout member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Woodhull and Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll, Iowa, and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Tom was an avid football and baseball fan, his favorite teams being the Chicago Bears and the New York Yankees. Sports was a true passion for Tom. He was a proud offensive and defensive lineman on the AlWood High School football team, and one of his most cherished memories was when the team won the 1968-1969 Corn Belt Conference champions title.

Tom’s generous spirit, his playful sense of humor, and his gentlemanly manners will be greatly missed. His love and support for friends and family knew no bounds. He delighted in supporting his nieces and nephews with their high school and college careers in any way he could. He was also passionate about collecting all kinds of books, magazines, and memorabilia, and he joyfully shared these with others.

Survivors include two brothers, James (Sarah) Norburg of Spring Hill, Tennessee, and Steve (Stephanie) Norburg of Albany, Illinois; two sisters, Sherry (Joseph) Greteman of Carroll, Iowa, and Angela Norburg of St. Paul, Minnesota; an aunt and uncle, Donald and Dorothy Norburg of Andover, Illinois; several nieces and nephews.

His parents and grandparents preceded him in death.
